East Midlands Ambulance workers owed hundreds of thousands of pounds from the taxman, says UNISON
Staff at East Midlands Ambulance Trust who were wrongly taxed VAT on their lease cars will finally get their money back after a successful campaign led by UNISON.
Following a related Court of Appeal ruling in 2020, UNISON has been working alongside the ambulance trust to recover over £200,000, which is owed to around 150 health workers, giving a huge financial boost to NHS staff struggling with financial uncertainty and hardship.
The Trust has been working through the implications of this decision, and it is their intention to reimburse this money before the end of October.
UNISON East Midlands Ambulance Branch Secretary Stuart Hallowes said: “This is a fantastic win for hard-working NHS staff who have been paying more than they needed to.
“UNISON was the only trade union to campaign to get this refund and help put money back in the pockets of health workers. This is yet another example of why it pays to be in UNISON.”
