EMAs pay campaign update

Exciting News Bulletin from UNISON EMAS!

UNISON ANNOUNCES MAJOR BREAKTHROUGH FOR EMAs: NEW BAND 4 JOB DESCRIPTION!

We are thrilled to bring you an exciting update on one of our key campaigns this year: “Put Our Banding Right.”

Thanks to the relentless efforts, collaboration and partnership between UNISON and EMAS, we are proud to announce a significant breakthrough that will positively impact many of our members.

Following months of hard work, consultations, and negotiations, we are excited to confirm that there will now be a new Band 4 job description for EMAs. This is in addition to a revised Band 3 job description, reflecting the evolving nature of the EMA role.

This landmark achievement comes after a thorough review process, where we worked together to ensure the job descriptions truly reflect the essential responsibilities of EMAs, particularly in relation to mentoring and the implementation of pathways.

Collaboration at its Best

Over the past 12 months, UNISON and EMAS have worked in partnership to review the EMA job description to ensure it accurately represents the role in its current form. This process included a series of workshops, feedback from EMA colleagues, and a final review of the job description before submission to the evaluation panel in December 2024.

Following these consultations, we are pleased to announce the outcome of the final review: two updated EMA job descriptions. One will remain as a revised Band 3 job description, and the other will introduce an exciting development – a new Band 4 job description. This is an important step forward, recognising the essential role EMAs play now. The new Band 4 role reflects the complexity and expertise now required within the EMA role.

As part of our ongoing commitment to transparency and support, we want to ensure you are well informed about how these changes will be implemented. In the coming week, you will receive further updates directly from the Trust, including invitations for MSTeams meetings, further information packs and answers to frequently asked questions (FAQs).

What does this mean for you?

The creation of the new Band 4 job description represents a clear step forward in recognising the essential role of EMAs and provides an opportunity for career progression, recognising the expertise and dedication that EMAs consistently demonstrate. Both new and existing EMAs will have clarity on the career pathway ahead, with the opportunity to transition to the Band 4 role as their responsibilities grow.

We understand that many of you may be asking about the banding in other roles. Please rest assured that we are continuing to have conversations on these matters, and further discussions are underway. We will keep you updated as soon as we have more news.
